McAuley Free Clinic - Lives Saved
The McAuley Clinic provides medical treatment and prescription medication for medically underserved, low-income individuals in our community. A full-time an several volunteer physicians treat over 8,000 patients each year at the clinic.
Although many patients seek treatment for minor illnesses, patients are often diagnosed with and treated for chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer. The clinic also provides health education on many topics, including disease prevention, weight loss and nutrition.
Four paid staff members, including one physician, staff the clinic, but many physician, nurse and other community volunteers regularly share their time and talent.
The Foundation For Health has provided funds to support McAuley Clinic in meeting the needs of our community.
About The McAuley Free Clinic
The McAuley Free Clinic is named for Catherine McAuley, a creative risk taker, who opened the first house of Mercy. Catherine followed a call to reach out with courage and concern to those who needed her care. Today, McAuley Clinic follows this same call, reaching out with courage and concern to those who need and are unable to pay for health care. McAuley Clinic is located at 501 Walnut Street, within the Daniel Pitino Shelter.
McAuley Free Clinic patients are receiving both life changing and life saving treatment
The McAuley Free Clinic provides medical treatment and prescription drugs for individuals in Owensboro and Daviess County who are without medical insurance. "I don't know what I would have done without this place," is a familiar phrase heard by staff at the clinc.
Although many seek treatment for minor illnesses, patients are often diagnosed with chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer.
The McAuley Free Clinic also provides health education on many topics including disease prevention, weight loss, diabetes, and nutrition. Program referrals include Alcoholics or Narcotics Anonymous, Al Anon, and Al Ateen; as well as classes and screenings available at the OMHS HealthPark or Green River District Health Department.
A Community Effort
The McAuley Free Clinic is about people in our community reaching out to help others. Health care professionals - physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses all volunteer to provide care. Other volunteers tend to the needs of patients to keep the clinic running smoothly.
Dr. Sam Dunlany, Dr. Jeff Hofer, and Dr. Gary Wahl worked with Father Ed Bradley to make McAuley Clinic a reality. Physician support continues to be the driving force behind the success of McAuley Free Clinic.
