Center achieves 97 percent healing rate in hard-to-heal wounds
The OMHS Wound Healing Center was recently recognized with the Center of Distinction Award, based on high patient satisfaction rates, exceptional healing results, and outstanding clinical outcomes over the past 12 months. The prestigious honor was awarded by the center's partner in wound healing, Diversified Clinical Services (DCS), the nation's leading wound care management company.
"It's outstanding," said Belinda Blair, the center's director. "We've got a fantastic staff and this award is great. To be recognized is fantastic."
The Wound Healing Center has achieved a 97 percent healing rate in treating hard-to-heal chronic wounds and in providing excellent care to patients since opening in June 2001. The center specializes in treating patients who suffer from chronic and non-healing wounds--a serious condition that can lead to amputation of limbs and dramatically impair quality of life. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins and immobility, non-healing wounds occur most frequently in the elderly and in people with diabetes and other diseases--populations that are sharply rising as the nation's population ages and chronic diseases increase.
"The hospital's Wound Healing Center enables us to meet the increasing need for specialized wound care and we are thrilled to accept this award for our region," said Greg Strahan, chief operating officer at OMHS.
"Paying attention to details has made for the high rate of success," says Dr. Randy Wolfe, medical director of the Wound Healing Center. "Patients are very pleased with the outcomes and recommend the center to their family and friends."
