OMHS Stroke Treatment: Working to Restore Your Life…
Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States and the primary cause of long-term disability. In the event of a stroke, OMHS provides the critical care necessary to improve your odds of survival and minimize the potential long-term disability.
Emergency Treatment
OMHS provides lifesaving state-of-the-art medical treatment to provide the best outcomes through eveidenced-based care to determine the right procedures at the most critical phases of your treatment. We take a multi-discipline approach to ensure the best treatments and therapy during your recovery.
OMHS has established a joint partnership with the University of Louisville Medical Center and it's Stroke Center to enhance our treatment of stroke patients. A remote physician presence robot network provides our patients with immediate access to the university hospital's stroke specialists staff through real-time video communication system. The network provides our patients additional treatment resources without the delay of transportation to another facility.
Quality of Inpatient Care
The OMHS maintains one of the best ratios of nurse-to-patient care and the medical staff continuously updates their training and develops new best practices for stroke treatment. Since communication with the medical staff may be difficult, we practice intentional rounding to ensure the medical needs of our inpatients are not being overlooked. The medical staff conducts Multi-disciplinary Team Meetings to determine individual care requirements that include physicians, nurses, pharmacy, therapy, dietary, case worker and chaplaincy.
Patient Focus
In addition to your immediate treatment and recovery, our next objective is to prevent another stroke. Inpatients begin their rehabilitation with the focus on restoring their lives to the best possible condition. We also provide our patients and their families with educational packages to keep them informed of the process of stroke recovery.
